  • Second Battle of Ypres begins: town of Ypres largely destroyed; German advance checked by Canadians after French retreat (see 22 November 1914 and 25 May 1915).
  • First German poison gas attack on the Western Front (see 14 April).
  • Progress by the French near St. Mihiel.
  • Russian attacks repulsed on both sides of the Uzsok Pass.
  • Austrian attack towards Styrj fails.
  • Anglo-French force landed at Enos.
  • Resumed bombardment of the forts at Smyrna.
  • British Admiralty suspends passenger traffic between England and Holland.
